Unique Cake Stands

Most venues and cake suppliers include cake stand hire in their wedding packages, but if you want something unique, then I’ve found some fabulous creations during my internet travels, my favourites have been the handcrafted metal stands created by Stands Out.

I’m a big fan of wrought iron and metalwork and they make custom stands with however many tiers required.

You’re having cupcakes? No problem, they also make cupcake stands.

They don’t just create cake stands either. I love this champagne flute tree.

Oh, and if you’re having a synthetic bouquet, a beautiful way of displaying it in your home, would be with a bouquet holder.

Some other cake stands that caught my eye….

Gothic and Damask Tableware

If budget permits, you might like to consider using your own tableware for that added gothic touch to your wedding breakfast.

Alchemy Gothic, as ever, are my first port of call when it comes to sniffing out gothic or spooky accessories and they have a great range of tableware, including this gorgeous dragon inspired cutlery set.

If you’re having a trick or treat theme for your wedding, you can have personalised Hallowe’en plates made by Wood Tattoos.

If you’re on a tighter budget, places like Argos do nice damask dinner sets in a variety of colours.

Invitations for the Darkly Inclined

We had our wedding stationery designed and made by the wonderful Lucie at Purple Fairy. She creates Gothic/alternative wedding invitations, save the date cards, table plans and favours in a large variety of styles and colours.

She was very encouraging and approachable throughout the whole process and she created stunning invitations for us and a matching table plan that perfectly complemented our theme.

I had a great time discussing our thoughts with Lucie and her invitations are really stylish and unique and suitable for any theme.

Her pocketfold invitations are really practical and attractive and are brilliant to hold your RSVP, gift list or directions.

Invitations can be customised to match your colour scheme and Lucie also has a fantastic range of fonts to choose from. We opted for Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas font and it looked wicked!

For the Hallowe’en themed wedding, her Bats wallet invitation would be very fitting.

The service offered by Purple Fairy is exceptional. All our stationery arrived swiftly and was very well packaged.

You might not want to go down the hand crafted invitations and there are many websites like Zazzle who have a huge range of customisable printed cards to choose from. I have used them on several occasions for Hallowe’en greeting cards and invitations.

Wedding Stationery Etc produce colour and foil printed personalised wedding stationery. They also have a gothic range and a website currently under construction at Raven Stationery.

Victorian Bridal

Romantic Threads is a sumptuous website selling fabulous ball/bridal gowns in various styles. They have a wonderful Steampunk Gothic Victorian Gowns section which is a little slice of heaven. If you’re having a Victorian, Gothic or Dracula themed wedding, then the elaborate and lavish “Mina Gown” would be perfect.

It’s available in a variety of colours such as purple, green and black and with matching hats.

Gowns are also available in different fabrics by enquiry, including silks, taffetas, brocades and velvets.

If you have flower girls or young bridesmaids to kit out as well, then they also have a lovely range for children.

They ship internationally, but for those of us here in the UK, there is also Victorian Gothic. They have recently updated their website and it looks great.

They are based in East Sussex. The designer is Michelle Artemis (loving the name) and she specialises in Victorian/Edwardian period clothing.

Clothing is customisable and there is also the option to mix and match with their range of corsets and skirts.

Michelle clearly takes great pride in her craft, with all items being made on vintage sewing machines and by hand.

Do check out their website, including their testimonials and customer gallery.

Bats and Broomsticks Guest House

Bats and Broomsticks is a guest house in Whitby. As the name suggests, it’s a goth themed b&b which has a really good humour about itself and is sumptuously decorated to be a homage to Victorian goth.

Whitby has become famous for its twice yearly goth festival and I can’t imagine a better place to stay to soak up the atmosphere. I went to the October festival a few years back and loved the seaside town. I’m hoping to go back, particularly as my husband and I’s wedding falls in the days leading up to Hallowe’en. I’d love to stay at Bats and Broomsticks and the website has been lurking in my bookmarks for years.

The guest house is run by Tish and Kev who seem really down to earth and warm whenever I’ve made enquiries about staying there. Hopefully someday I will actually be able to make that booking!

If you’re looking for a honeymoon or romantic getaway with a darker twist, then do check out their website.

Ruffles anyone?

You don’t get more ruffles than on these dresses!

Wedding Dress Fantasy are a bridal salon based in New Jersey, however they also offer international shipping.

Their dresses are very flamboyant and “out there”, so they’re perfect if you really want to make a statement.

Of course, you would have to really be a fan of ruffles, ribbons and flowers!

Dresses are available in a variety of colours, so you could be sure to find your statement dress in the colour you want.

One thing is for certain, these dresses are definitely not understated!

Happy ruffle shopping!
